Louis Blériot School in Bourget

The green roofs of the Louis Blériot school were established with i.D. MAT sedum mats produced by Vegetal i.D. The school at Bourget is located in a district directed towards the landscape of the major city of Paris, connected to the town by green "corridors", a district which the nearby station brings close to Paris. The HUBERT et ROY Architectes et Associés architects' practice designed the school on the basis of a structure built completely of wood, digitized, optimised and cut out in the factory, assembled in a few months by two craftsmen. This structure was covered with a green roof to retain water and to achieve thermal and acoustic insulation. The elevations of the structure were closed by glazed panels wedged on the frame, or by aluminium sheets, with insulation being placed within the thickness of the structure. All the Nursery rooms were located on the ground floor with the classrooms accessible from the courtyard. The Junior classrooms are on the first floor. The wide bay window brings in heat during the winter as well as views from the interior of the school into the distance. Wood is the material par excellence whose use improves the eco-system by regenerating forests, assisting the wood industry, adding to photosynthesis and oxygen production. The project used only fully recyclable materials. The client was sympathetic to natural materials, thus encouraging a project that focused sustainable practices.
