Administrative centre at the Town Hall of Mureaux

The Mureaux town hall planted its roof using vegetal i.D. multilayer vegetating systems. The technique selected used micro-plugs and perennial plantings. The new administrative centre at the Mureaux Town Hall is a construction project, which used the HQE approach right from the start. Soon after its inauguration, this project received AFNOR HQE certification for tertiary buildings. A roof measuring 220 m2 is located on R+3 of this building, which has a total of four-stories. Two main requirements were taken into account when designing a suitable solution for this project: The roof was required to have a minimum water retention capacity of 40 L/m2 given its location (under several offices which have a direct view over it), making the aesthetic aspect very important. The Vegetal i.D. proposal consisted of installing a varied green roof of a Mix-Flore type combining sedums and perennial and aromatic plants such as thyme, oregano, chives, or carnations. In order to be able to produce clearly distinct spaces with the various plants, the roof was installed by planting micro-plugs. Using micro-plugs requires an installation phase (period when the plants develop in the growing media until they can produce significant cover): Planted in December 2004, they covered approximately 40% of the surface by June 2005. In June 2006, cover reached 90%. June is also the best time to see the diversity of appearance of the different plants used in the Mix-Flore roof, and to enjoy the great variety of colours typical of this floral combination.
